Travel the World...
Independent advice for
traveling the world

Red Eye
By Jeff Booth

Travel is hard. And if it's not, then you haven't been on the road long enough, gone far enough, or overpacked.

I'm not saying everyone should cram onto the Trans-Siberian train and live off stale Chinese food and rotten Russian potatoes for a week. ("That which does not kill you makes you stronger," but that food just might kill you.) Hard is a relative term, but a powerful one. It's hard to get to and catch a wave at Cloud 9, it's even harder to face racism in a country where you are a guest, and then to realize your postcard tourist attraction isn't a rock or a check mark in your guidebook, but living culture. That's what this issue is about, what this magazine is about.

You might notice the new changes in SWT in our fifth year. We're focusing on what really matters with the way we travel - pushing boundaries of countries and understanding.

Just turn left,
Jeff
